Lisa Adams

Who I am: I’m a Yale-educated biology major and former med student with over 30 years of experience in K-12 education. I’ve spent my career becoming a "human diagnostic tool" for kids on the spectrum and those dealing with behavioral challenges, finding I’m uniquely tuned into the frequency of kids often left behind. The path: It hasn't been a straight line—I’ve had my share of "running and screaming" moments, but I eventually found my true calling. There’s no greater privilege than being invited into a child's world when they choose to open that velvet rope. The mission: I'm here to be your "special needs sherpa." We’re going to start with you because you can’t help anyone else if you’re burnt out. You’ve got to put your own oxygen mask on first. Real talk: I’m an East Coast transplant, not a polished ghostwriter. What you see is what you get—a 53-year-old Black woman who’s here to bring her absolute best to make the world safer and more equitable for kids, families, and teachers alike.

”
One of the students I have heard her [Lisa] speak most tenderly of is a boy who is diagnosed with autism. The two of them worked together for several years, ... These days he no longer hunches over wearing glasses he does not need, and when I pass him in homework club, he responds to my greetings with a clear "hello" and a smile. Lisa cares for her students as if they were her own kids."
